Still Kicking

Thu Oct 1, 2009, 1:32 PM
I command you to eat Ben and Jerry's Triple Caramel Chunk Ice-cream. (I think that's what it is called). No, no--you don't understand. It tastes of gloriousness that I cannot describe in mere, mortal words.

I apologize for not getting to all your messages! Many thanks for the favs, too! School has just been crazy as of lates (mid-termsorama. Yes, I just said that :XD:).

What has Liquid been doing?

:bulletred: I've been participating in a national weather forecasting challenge thingie (no, not broadcasting).
:bulletgreen: Infinite Physics Problems that keep you up till 3 a.m.
:bulletred: Staring at the hieroglyphics that is Calculus 2
:bulletgreen: Wondering where all the French is going in my head
:bulletred: Logging in and out
:bulletgreen: Staring at radar images and loops.
:bulletred: Staring into space.
:bulletgreen: Rolling my eyes at the university's internet signal, which has been going up and down!!
:bulletred: Cracking jokes with my friend at the circus that was Transformers 2. :D
:bulletgreen: Saw Iron Man. Wow, guys. Really? *le gasp* I think I need to take suggestions with a grain of salt =( I couldn't stand Pepper Pot. At the beginning, she was ok, but wow--my friend and I were so disappointed in her air-headedness. Tsk, tsk. I heard she wasn't in the original comic--Stark was engaged? So ... what happened? The technology was CRAZY, though! Touchscreen drag-and-drop holograms! (Sorry, I live in a cave. It was too advanced for my mind).

By the way--I saw the first episode of FlashForward on ABC. Lost, anyone? 'Scuse me, hehe.

It was interesting, though, and based off a book written by that Robert Sawyer dude who gave suggestions on sci-fi writing. You know, the article link I posted in News a while back (see my News list if you're curious). I'll take his pompous word for it. You can't sugar-coat everything and spoon-feed everyone. Someone's got to be honest, for once. What does it take to make it in the literary market? At least this successful Hugo-winning author took the time to share his recipe! Just saying.

The truth will set you free.

Off to forecasting!! Take care and much luck on your writing and competitions! Also start preparing for NaNo, now--outline your chapters!

Facts about she who calls herself 'Ali Kennedy':

:bulletred: Descendant of Caribbean cannibals

:bulletgreen: Adores fantasy/sci-fi.

:bulletred: Has this inner critic-demon that can get quite out of hand at times. Want to know what I really think? :fuzzydemon: Nah, you're fine. But seriously.

:bulletgreen: Thinks anyone can write if they really try. Writing isn't that complicated, contrary to the popular belief of writers. You don't have to 'open a vein' or 'yank out your teeth'.You do have to spend inordinate amounts of time thinking, reading, and researching, though, and you will encounter Writer's Block sometime. But if you BS literature, you will have my disdain and inner :fuzzydemon:.

:bulletred: When I read, I focus on concepts and creativity more than a story's style and structure. Otherwise, I would read a textbook for entertainment, no? Both are important, but I hold one higher than the other.

:bulletgreen: Shrimp!!!

:bulletred: Elves!!!

:bulletgreen: Lord of the Rings!!!

:bulletred: speculative lit writers = the awesome of literature. Let us band together, my sisters and brothers. World domination!

Everywhere I go I'm asked if the universities stifle writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a best seller that could have been prevented by a good teacher. --Flannery O'Connor
